Bittersweet Productions was founded in 1994 with a tour of THE GRAPES
OF WRATH that opened in Western North Carolina and took a final bow in
Kiev, Ukraine. These days, an ensemble of seasoned actors presents a
variety of comic and musical performances across North and South
Carolina. Bittersweet’s Nightshade Mystery Theatre produces interactive
mysteries aboard the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad and at inns,
conference centers, hotels, and restaurants for individual and
corporate clients. Original scripts by The Haymakers present zany
characters, the inevitable crime, and the chance for audience members
to become detectives and answer the question, “Who done it?” The
company performs a spirited review of the music, comedy, and dance of
the “Roaring Twenties” in a 1920s Radio Show - even the studio audience
gets into the act for a lively Charleston. News breaks are full of
what’s happening in Buncombe County and Asheville businesses from
Barefoot and Tatum’s Drug Store to Biltmore Dairy’s singing cows are
featured in ads of the period.
Bittersweet entertains the young and young at heart with a frolic of familiar fairy tales with a twist set in the early years of “Bunkum’s” Twentieth Century. Costumed characters, musical fashion shows of period costumes, and customized shows for any event also are available.
